When her marriage ends, December Doyle returns home to Christmas Creek. Will she conquer her fear of heartbreak? A heart-warming novel about betrayal, ambition and the power of love.
After a disastrous marriage, December Doyle has returned to her home town to try to pick up the pieces of her life and start again. She’s also intent on helping breathe new life into the Christmas Creek township, so the last thing she needs is trouble.

Bad boy Seth Hunter has also returned to Christmas Creek, and trouble is his middle name. Wrongly convicted of a serious crime in his youth, Seth is now a successful businessman, but he’s intent on settling some old scores.

As teenagers, December and Seth were madly in love, and seeing each other again reawakens past feelings. But will Seth be able to overcome his destructive anger about the past, and can December conquer her fear of heartbreak to make their relationship third time lucky?

By the bestselling author of Second Chance Town, this compelling novel is about betrayal, ambition and the power of forgiveness - and love.

review.

Third Time Lucky was a fun and easy Summer read that I couldn’t put down.

Earlier last month I participated in the Blog Tour promoting the release of Third Time Lucky by Karly Lane, and Allen & Unwin were kind enough to send me a copy of the book for review. I’m so glad they did, because it’s not a book I would normally pick up for myself on the shelves and yet I thoroughly enjoyed reading it one warm (okay, hot) afternoon in Melbourne just after Christmas.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, given the book’s setting in the rural Victorian town of Christmas Creek - where the towns residents have embraced their name, choosing Christmas-themed names for the shops and their street names. December Doyle, one of our main characters, has returned home after her marriage ends, in need of family support while she tries to pick up the pieces of her life and get herself out of debt. She loves her town, loves Christmas, and is determined to help bring Christmas Creek back to it’s former glory, despite many of the local businesses and farms going out of business due to bigger chain stores opening in neighbouring towns. Her life is complicated when Seth Hunter, her former boyfriend and town bad boy returns, with a big chip on his shoulder and a business empire at his disposal.

Third Time Lucky is a romance fiction novel set in rural Australia with a cast of characters that are reminiscent of the characters you do find in towns like that. The dialogue rang true and it was simply delightful to read. December is such a positive and upbeat woman despite the hand life has dealt her and is determined to move on with her life. Seth was a great bad boy, driven by the wrongs done to him in the past, fuelled by anger and yet he’s not unreasonable.

Overall, this was perfect, light, Summertime reading and I’m so glad I read it. I gave Third Time Lucky 4.5 out of 5 stars.

(Thank you to Allen & Unwin for sending me a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.)
