synopsis.

End of Days is the explosive conclusion to Susan Ee’s bestselling Penryn & the End of Days trilogy. After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.

When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?

review.

End of Days is a hard book to review given that it’s the third and final book in a trilogy and I don’t want to inadvertently give away any spoilers. So, to that end, this review will be relatively short.

End of Days was a satisfying conclusion to Susan Ee’s angelic dystopian series. Penryn continues to be a great female lead character, although it’s clear by now that she’s having to make decisions that seriously impact on the people that she loves and herself. I don’t envy her those decisions, and she doesn’t always make what might be considered ‘the best choice’ and that’s okay. It was great to have Raffe step back up and be present in this book (after being noticeably, largely absent in the second). He’s got his own conflicts to deal with, and his own personal demons to confront - which results in a really interesting look at what happens to angels who’ve fallen.

I loved the final ‘battle’ sequence which is nothing like what I would have imagined happening, but given the characters at the time in the book, is perfectly fitting.

If you enjoy dystopian or stories about angels, it’s well worth picking up this series. Overall, I gave End of Days 4 out of 5 stars and an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars for the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy.
