my thoughts.

A Child of Books is a truly magical read. A beautiful story told through words and pictures by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston, this is a book that will ignite the imagination of readers young and old.

The summary of the book is a great place to start - a young girl sails a raft across a sea of words and meets a small boy, inviting him to join her on an adventure into the world of stories. Our two characters make their way through worlds of stories where the limitations are guided by their imaginations.

This book is gorgeous. The artwork in this book is truly one of a kind - mixing illustration and typographical landscapes that invite the reader to look closer. There is a plethora of recognisable children’s literature woven into the illustrations that will light up the faces of fans of children’s books everywhere.

The message is simple: anything can happen with a little imagination (and a love of stories).

There is something utterly beautiful about picture books about books and reading, and this is one of the best.

I gave A Child of Books 5 out of 5 stars. This is a book that I will read, and reread, time and time again.
